About Me

I’m Scott Matthews, an award-winning commercial photographer, designer and hands-on creative based in South Devon. With over 30 years’ experience in studios, on location and in the workshop, I help take projects from their initial idea through to a carefully considered finished result.

Photography has been a lifelong passion and the foundation of my career. I began as an assistant in a London studio, working on assignments ranging from antiques to the Royal Ballet. During the transition to digital photography in the early 2000s, I ran my own studio specialising in beverage photography.

When close friends founded the equestrian brand LeMieux, I had the opportunity to work alongside them throughout their journey. That experience gave me an invaluable understanding of how photography, design and consistent creative direction can help shape and grow a successful brand. It also broadened my role from photographer to multidisciplinary creative.

Today, my time is divided between the studio and the workshop. Alongside photography, video and graphic design, I design and produce exhibition pieces, point-of-sale displays, prototypes and small-batch manufactured products. Combining creative thinking with practical and technical experience allows me to understand every stage of a project—from concept and visualisation to production and presentation.

I continue to embrace new technologies, materials and processes, but my approach remains the same: understand the brief, solve the problem and create something that works beautifully.

Away from work, I live by the sea in South Devon with my wife, Helen, and our four Miniature Schnauzers: Brillo, Doris, Mabel and Mollie.

Equipped for the brief

Over the years, I’ve invested in a comprehensive range of professional equipment for photography, video production and post-production. My in-house setup includes Hasselblad and Canon camera systems, Profoto lighting, DJI Ronin & Glidecam stabilisation, a fully colour-managed Apple and Eizo editing workflow.

Owning and maintaining my core equipment means I can arrive prepared, adapt quickly during a production and deliver consistently high-quality results. It also reduces the need for routine equipment hire, helping clients avoid additional costs and unnecessary delays.

Independent creative support for equestrian brands

For many years, I was closely associated with LeMieux, supporting the business across photography, graphic design, video production and product development from its earliest days.

That working relationship has now concluded, and I operate entirely independently with no ongoing affiliation to LeMieux or any other equestrian brand.

I understand the commercial sensitivity surrounding new products, campaigns and brand strategy. Every client’s information is treated in strict confidence, and I am entirely comfortable working under an NDA or agreeing appropriate category exclusivity for a defined project.

I’m now looking to bring my equestrian-sector knowledge and multidisciplinary creative experience to new collaborations, while approaching every brand on its own terms.
